Pressure, Pressure

I had the chance to meet and interact with Rick Wagoner, the now unseated CEO of GM. His personal qualities are those of a humble, thoughtful, attentive, focused, engaging and warm executive. I listened to his vision for GM which he shared several years ago and I am struck by just how far off the organization is from his vision.

I am intriqued that this individual who exhibits so many of the qualities often identified as essential to effective leadership could have been so unsuccessful. This says a great deal about the forces of a large organization and the energy required to change....and change it must or it will fall away into ashes. When we are performing--under pressure or otherwise--it is wise to consider the context which is always with you.
