Authenticity

Having just completed a webinar on authenticity I've been struck by the number of emails from participants who both enjoyed the webinar and who wanted more. The core of the presentation was in how authencity is read through our body language, our emotional energy, and listening. We need to learn how to use ourselves as tools to provide the leadership necessary, especially during challenging times.

Change?

Though the rate of change and quality of change is both more complex, the human responses are still the same and need the same care. What do you need during this period of time to feel that you have a greater chance of success?

Pressure, Pressure

I had the chance to meet and interact with Rick Wagoner, the now unseated CEO of GM. His personal qualities are those of a humble, thoughtful, attentive, focused, engaging and warm executive. I listened to his vision for GM which he shared several years ago and I am struck by just how far off the organization is from his vision.

I am intriqued that this individual who exhibits so many of the qualities often identified as essential to effective leadership could have been so unsuccessful. This says a great deal about the forces of a large organization and the energy required to change....and change it must or it will fall away into ashes. When we are performing--under pressure or otherwise--it is wise to consider the context which is always with you.

Performance Under Pressure - What Do We Know?

Performance under pressure…..do you need to mobilize the talents and minds of others to get the job done while their stress levels increase in an economic pressure cooker? Is the emergence of virtual teams transforming the way you lead them?

The pressures are increasing almost exponentially—economic, interpersonal, organizational—which means we need more effective strategies to address these demands.

What do we know? We know that as stress tolerance decreases, performance at all levels diminishes. We know that individuals need to learn new ways to getting things done which increases the demand for personal growth. We know that performance is based on what you do, which is affected by what you think, and that is influenced by how you learn.

The goal of this blog is to allow for the sharing of performance under pressure challenges, tactics, and action tips.

What are your pressures? What are your strategies? How are you increasing performance capacity in the face of harsh economic challenges?
